With cosmetic dentistry, it is never too late to get the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted! Whatever nature and time have done to your smile, treatments like porcelain veneers at our Madera dental office can correct aesthetic flaws.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
A dental veneer is a thin shell of durable ceramic that our Madera cosmetic dentist uses to give a tooth a new appearance. The veneer is bonded securely to the front surface of a tooth, hiding imperfections like broken, gapped, or discolored teeth beneath it.
We can use a single veneer to create a more symmetrical appearance, or we can use a full set to give you a total smile makeover.
What Smile Flaws Do Veneers Correct?
Porcelain veneers placed at our Madera dental office hide a multitude of smile flaws, including:
Chipped, Cracked, or Broken Teeth
As strong as our teeth are, they withstand a lot of wear and tear. It’s common to chip or break a tooth that throws off the balance of your smile, but a dental veneer conceals the damage and restores your smile.
Uneven Gaps and Spacing Between Teeth
Most of us don’t have perfectly spaced teeth, and while some variation is fine, wide or uneven gaps can definitely detract from your smile. Placing a veneer over one or two teeth hides the gaps and gives your smile a more symmetrical appearance.
Slight Tooth Misalignment
You may hear porcelain veneers referred to as “instant orthodontics.” By placing dental veneers on top of slightly crooked teeth, your cosmetic dentist in Madera can give you a straighter smile without braces!
Stained or Discolored Teeth
Professional teeth whitening removes a lot of tooth staining and discoloration. But if you have yellow teeth or brown stains from tobacco that don’t respond to whitening, porcelain veneers can easily conceal them.
The Process for Getting Porcelain Veneers
The first step is a consultation appointment with our cosmetic dentist to determine if veneers are the best choice for your needs. At your next appointment, we remove a thin layer of tooth enamel, approximately equivalent to the veneer's thickness.
Next, we take impressions of the prepared tooth, select a white shade to blend in with your smile, and create a temporary veneer for you to wear while a custom dental lab creates your final veneers to our specifications.
When we receive your new veneers from the lab, you’ll return to our Madera dental office once more to have them adjusted for fit, polished, and placed securely onto your teeth.
If you take proper care of your oral health with routine dental exams and cleanings and excellent oral hygiene at home, your veneers can last as long as ten years—or longer.
