Getting you little one started with a regular professional cleaning and exam schedule at a young age builds a healthy foundation for a lifetime of excellent dental habits. Studies show that when parents delay starting dental care for their child, they are more likely to experience common dental conditions such as decay.
We invite you to bring your child in anytime, but encourage it strongly by the age of three. At three years, your child has plenty of their teeth and we should do an exam and a cleaning to keep them healthy and cavity-free.
What can you expect in a preventative appointment?
A big part of our dental practice is educating parents and kids on their own dental health. We start explaining techniques and procedures to your child at a young age and in a way that they can understand. Providing them with proper brushing techniques, the importance of oral health, and the importance of taking care of their teeth will add to your healthy habits at home and arm them against gum disease and cavities.
If we notice some areas that you regularly miss with brushing, we can help you improve those techniques in your home care. Kids need help with brushing until about age eight, so you will be their best defense against cavities until then.
We strive to make your child’s dental appointments fun and interactive, while still getting the job done. Their participation helps them feel more in control and comfortable in the dental office. That way, by the time we lean them back in the chair for their cleaning, your little one feels like they know us and is more relaxed.
Our hygienists are extremely gentle with their cleanings and love working with kids. They have children of their own and years of experience working with kids of all ages.
