What should I expect at my child's first dental appointment?
At Keledjian Dental, we recommend bringing your child to the dentist before the age of three. However, if you would like to bring him or her sooner, around the time of the first tooth eruption, that is perfectly fine, too.
During the initial visit, our staff will help your child feel at ease as we introduce him or her to the sights and sounds of a dental office for the first time.
At our Madera, CA dental office, we believe in instilling healthy dental habits early. This is why the first visit may last a little longer than other visits. Not only do we want your child to feel relaxed, but we want him or her to love coming to the dentist.
What to expect during the first dental visit
- Brushing and counting teeth
- Instructions on how to best care for your child’s teeth at home
- An examination of teeth to make sure there are no issues
As soon as your child feels relaxed, usually by the second visit, we may opt to do a fluoride rinse or professional cleaning to give him or her a great head start in cavity prevention.
