Tooth-Colored Fillings and Bonding in Madera, CA
Most people have dental decay and need dentist fillings at some point in their lives. Dentist fillings procedures ensure decay is removed from your tooth and the area is filled in with a material used to strengthen and protect your tooth from future decay.
At Keledjian Dental, we use white filling material called composite to ensure the best natural looking, tooth-colored fillings. Composite material comes in a variety of shades so that we can match your natural teeth. Composite fillings are strong and reliable. They can also be used to make small cosmetic changes to your teeth such as filling gaps or chips.
What Is Tooth Decay?
Dental decay, or caries, is an infection that is bacterial in nature and causes the erosion of your tooth due to an overly acidic environment. Bacteria occur in your mouth and when they interact with food particles, particularly sweets, it creates an acidic environment. Your tooth becomes susceptible when the acid is allowed to remain on your tooth for too long. That is why we recommend frequent brushing and flossing, especially after sugary snacks.
Once the bacteria are able to penetrate the hard outer layer of enamel on your tooth, they can cause serious damage if not treated. Because of x-rays and today’s technology, we are able to catch decay quickly at your regular dental exams. The more quickly you are diagnosed, the less invasive and expensive your treatment will be.
If dental decay is left untreated, it can create the need for a root canal, crown, or dental extraction. Deep decay can cause significant pain and discomfort. That is why we recommend regular dental visits and preventative care such as cleanings and fluoride toothpaste.
How the Fillings Work
Despite your best efforts, you may one day need a filling. Sometimes it is due to your tooth anatomy and some people may be more susceptible to decay than others. Once we have diagnosed you with decay, we will schedule a filling appointment for you. Typically, when caught early, fillings are a relatively quick procedure. The longer they are left untreated, the longer it will take us to repair your tooth.
Dr. Jason Keledjian will expertly and gently remove all of the decay from your tooth and sterilize the area. Then he will place the composite material in layers and cure it with a special light. Once the area of decay is completely filled, he will shape and polish the composite material to match the rest of your teeth.
Your new filling will protect your tooth and prevent more decay from damaging that area. Proper hygiene and dental appointments must be maintained to ensure that new decay does not begin. We will share information about any special techniques or products that may help you maintain your dental health.
